It’s important to wear clothing that is comfortable for movement and something you feel confident wearing. You should avoid anything that is excessively baggy, as your instructor needs to be able to see your body lines. Remember, you want to be able to focus on what you’re learning, so choose clothing that won’t distract you from your goal. Do I need to purchase special shoes? You do not need to purchase special shoes. Generally, you should wear dress shoes that you might wear out to a club for dancing or to a wedding. Women should wear a comfortable heel, no higher than 2 inches, and the shoes should have an ankle strap and covered heel for support. Absolutely no flip flops or athletic shoes as shoes with rubber soles restrict your ability to slide across the floor and could present a tripping hazard. The most important thing is to change your shoes before your class. Please, no street shoes on the dance floor. Although special dance shoes are not required, you may find that as you become more dedicated to dancing, purchasing shoes specifically made for dance makes sense for you. We can help you decide what to purchase. Until then, any comfortable dress shoe is fine.
